America Israel Tours takes you to Magdala
Magdala is major first-century port located at the shores of the Sea of Galilee. It is an important Holy Land site best known as the home of Mary Magdalene.
From the Bible we can deduct that Mary Magdalene was a very important follower of Jesus, she was in fact named 12 times in the New Testament. According to the Gospels, she was present during the crucifixion and the first person to see Jesus after his resurrection.
Father Juan Solana was appointed to this area by the pope and decided to build a guest house for pilgrims visiting the area. Once the construction began in the 2009, a synagogue was discovered. The structure dated to the first century, the time of Christ’s ministry. The Bible says Jesus taught in the Galilee area, so it’s pretty certain he would have preached at this very spot.
Inside the synagogue, archaeologists found The Magdala Stone, considered to be one of the most significant findings in the last 50 years, since it depicts the oldest carved image of the Second Temple’s menorah.
In the City of Magdala you will also find a first century Jewish town with only 10% excavated. New discoveries are being unearthed every day! A new guesthouse, restaurant, worship center and visitor center will open in 2018 to accommodate the thousands of tourists visiting this marvelous archeological site.
