Israel Travel Guide ยป Capernaum
Capernaum was an ancient village in Galilee, today Israel, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, also called Lake Tiberias or Kineret. It is known to Christians as the “city of Jesus”, named in the New Testament.
It was one of the places chosen by Jesus of Nazareth to share his message and perform some of his miracles. It is located 2.5 km of Tabgha and 15 km from the city of Tiberias, on the northwest side of the lake.
In March 2000, John Paul II, visited this site during his trip to Israel.
